Circunvalación externa (Outer ring road), is a two-channel video installation in which the same image is repeated in two places. It refers to ring roads in cities that connect different urban and suburban areas (center-periphery), the scenes in the installation explore diverse contexts of contemporary cities. The same image is seen in two different places, two very different domestic indoors. A television displays an image for no one,as the two places are empty. The only character that does appear in the image is absorbed by it, in what we might call the “inner image”, he is alone and records himself. The action of the character is dotted with some other images that show empty cities in which automation still work, but in use for no one. At times we see some people, but the texture of the image, from other times, states that they belong to the universe of remembrance and memory.
The project consists of two scenes, as an open sentence in which the narrative structure is shown dispersed in the image and its context. We always see through something, the image is thus defined by its surrounding as a medium capable of destabilizing, changing, neutralizing it.
The “inner image” appears twice, the two indoor spaces where it appears are two type of homes, one seems to belong more to the urban periphery and the other one seems more bourgeois or stable. The action appears as frozen in the two spaces, in the objects and the activity of inhabitants that are gone, but whose footprints cast possible interpretations of what we see.
“Circunvalación externa” es una vídeo instalación en dos canales en la que una misma imagen se repite en dos lugares. Hace referencia a las vías de circunvalación de las ciudades que comunican las diferentes zonas urbanas y sub-urbanas (centro-periferia), los escenarios de la instalación recorren diversos contextos de las urbes contemporáneas. Una misma imagen es vista en dos lugares distintos, dos interiores domésticos muy diferentes. La televisión funciona mostrando una imagen para nadie, porque que los dos lugares están vacíos. El único personaje que aparece lo hace absorbido en la imagen, en lo que podríamos llamar “imagen interior”, está solo y además se graba a sí mismo. La acción del personaje está salpicada por otras imágenes que nos muestran ciudades vacías en las que los automatismos que las recorren aún funcionan, pero lo hacen para nadie. Tan sólo en un momento aparecen algunos habitantes, pero la textura de la imagen que los contiene, propia de otras épocas, declara que pertenecen al universo de los recuerdos y de la memoria.
El proyecto consiste en dos escenas, como una frase abierta en la que la estructura narrativa aparece dispersa en la imagen y su contexto. Siempre vemos a través de algo, la imagen es así definida por su contexto como un medio capaz de desestabilizarla, cambiarla y neutralizarla.
La “imagen interior” aparece dos veces, los dos interiores en los que aparece son dos casas, dos tipologías, una parece pertenecer más a la periferia y otra aparece más burguesa o estable. La acción aparece congelada en los dos espacios en los objetos y la actividad de unos habitantes que ya no están, pero cuya huella arroja posibles interpretaciones acerca de lo que vemos.
